Cassie was not always the playful dog she is today.

When she was first rescued, she was shy and unsure. No one even knew if she would allow a person to touch her.

But one small moment changed everything.

22 Dogs Were Found in Terrible Conditions

Taylor first learned about the rescue through her mother.

One night, her mom saw a news story about Wagmore. The rescue had taken in 22 dogs from a trailer.

The dogs were in very poor condition.

Feces were matted into their hair. They were malnourished and had many infections because of the conditions around them.

Taylor’s mother cried while watching the story.

Once Wagmore had the dogs, one of the first jobs was cleaning them up.

At the same time, Taylor had already been thinking about getting a dog. She had been looking for one for a long time.

After hearing about these dogs, she felt it was the right time to rescue.

She started following Wagmore on Instagram. Then the rescue began sharing photos of the dogs.

That was when Taylor saw Cassie.

Cassie Was Afraid of the World Around Her

In the photos, Cassie looked timid and shy.

The rescue told Taylor they were not sure Cassie had ever really been outside her crate or familiar surroundings.

Because of that, she may not have known how to do many normal dog things.

There was another concern too.

The rescue warned Taylor that Cassie might not let her touch or pick her up.

But their first meeting went differently than expected.

Taylor reached her arms toward Cassie.

Cassie came to her.

Taylor picked the little dog up, and Cassie rested her head against Taylor’s chest.

In that moment, Taylor knew.

“This is it. This is the one,” she remembered thinking.

A Different Cassie Slowly Appeared

The Cassie Taylor brought home was quiet and unsure.

But over time, another side of her began to appear.

Taylor now calls her “sassy Cassie” when that personality comes out.

Cassie plays with the family’s other dog. She runs around with a little prance that Taylor loves.

She has also found some funny habits.

Sometimes Cassie rests on Taylor’s chest. Then, before Taylor knows it, Cassie starts climbing around her head almost like a cat.

The change has been huge.

Taylor’s mother said the Cassie they know now is not the same Cassie Taylor first adopted.

She has watched her daughter care for the little dog. She is proud of what Taylor has done.

But she is also proud to see Cassie thriving.

The love and attention Taylor gives her have helped Cassie become much more comfortable in her new life.

A Home Where Cassie Could Feel Safe

Bringing Cassie home also changed something for Taylor.

She said having Cassie made her apartment feel complete.

Taylor did not adopt her just to make herself feel good.

What mattered was being able to give Cassie a home.

It was a place where Cassie could feel safe and loved.

For a dog who once seemed scared and unsure of human touch, that new life was a huge change.

Cassie now plays, runs, climbs, and shows off her sassy side.

The timid rescue dog Taylor first saw in a photo is still part of her story.

But today, Cassie is also a dog who knows what it feels like to have a home of her own.
